Beneficiary Defined

An individual designated by name who will become the owner only upon the death of the owner of the security. Bonds recorded with the name of a Beneficiary are registered, for example; "John Smith Payable on Death (POD) to Jane Smith." "Jane Smith" is the Beneficiary. "John Smith" is the owner and may grant View rights to the Beneficiary.
